Family Background
Hi! My name is Elma Wu. I have a harmonious family. All my family members share a common trait, which is being kind to everyone. It may sound a little bit idealistic, but this philosophy does help us appreciate the world with an open-minded perspective, and we get to know more peoples' stories. Growing up in this wholesome background, I become a friendly and objective person, and more than happy to help others. On the other hand, that cultivates me to be curious about humans' lives, which may be the reason that I'm into literature.
Personalities and Interests
My personality can be best described as easy-going, honest, empathetic, and conscientious. I also have vibrant and passionate inner lives, which motivates me to use creative phrases to translate and describe things.
Apart from the amiability, I'm also a detail-oriented person. Paying attention to specific details while completing my work makes me feel content. Therefore, the translator would be a perfect job for me, since I highly value the accuracy of translated words, and stick to finding the most relatable term in accordance with the cultural background of the original text.
​ At my leisure, I like to watch some English learning videos on YouTube or read BBC/CNN website news to acquire the trend of the world. Moreover, I'm a movie person. Reviewing the meaning behind the story and discussing movie plots with others are certainly interesting for me.
Abilities and Life Goal
As a Department of Foreign Language and Literature student, I've always constantly refined all aspects of English, and kept myself up to date. That is also the reason that I took courses that required speaking English, such as” Escorting English”, to strengthen my weakness in English oral expression ability, and is the purpose that I started to build up my English learning website as well. I have also studied Spanish for two years. Although I do not have lots of working experience, I use my time to learn interdisciplinary knowledge through online resources, and it helps build up my abilities to work in different fields in the future.
I've wanted to work as a translator or a custom. To fulfill my dream, I sharpen English as my proficiency, and make a plan to arrange my time to develop knowledge in related field, and put it into practice step by step.
Life Motto
As the cliché goes, "Follow your heart, and don't be afraid to choose your own path, even though it's different from the others." It also combines with the perspective of "Love what you choose, choose what you love." Although there is no lack of people engaged in English translation, I believe my passion for converting words will make me stand out from others. As a foreign language major, I will keep sharpening my English skills and using my proficiency as a tool to connect with the world and different working fields.
